Zaporozhian Cossack After Battle. Figural bronze group, the model by Lansere, cast by Chopin, St. Petersburg, late 19th century. In Russian inscribed "Sculpted by E. Lansere" with Chopin Foundry mark. Minor wear, the gun and the spear loose.
According to family lore, formerly from the property of the King of Württemberg. Then Märklin Haushaltswaren, Königstraße Stuttgart. Acquired there in the 1950s and passed on by inheritance to the present owner.
Yevgeny A. Lancere's (1848-1886) preferred subjects were horses and riders. At the age of 11 he moulded a wax model of a troika and gave it to the later Tsar Alexander III. The group Zaporozhian Cossack after the Battle was designed in 1874 and was exhibited in St. Petersburg, Philadelphia, Paris, Moscow and Minsk.
